The Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre (HKBEDC) is proud to present the new Ethics Promotion Website for the Insurance Industry, a one-stop ethics resources portal developed under the "Integrity for Success" Ethics Promotion Campaign for the Insurance Industry (the Campaign). 

 

This new dedicated website showcases key initiatives of the Campaign and offers a wide range of ethics resources and useful information for different stakeholders, including:

Following the successful launch of the “Starting-Up Right!” programme for novice entrepreneurs and start-ups, the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre (HKBEDC) has recently formed a “Starting-Up Right! Connectors Network” (the Network) to link start-up connectors together and exchange useful information on business ethics and anti-corruption.

 

Start-up incubators, accelerators, alongside start-up communities and organisations that coordinate local start-ups activities, are cordially invited to join the Network and assist in disseminating integrity messages to their connected start-ups. Participating connectors can:

 

• receive news from the HKBEDC on its business ethics initiatives

• access to the latest ICAC’s publications and anti-corruption resources

• obtain “Anti-corruption Information Kit for Start-ups & SMEs”, pamphlets, feature articles, etc. for distribution to the connected start-ups

• use ICAC’s free services, including arrange talks and sharing sessions on corruption prevention for start-ups

Mr HO Wai-chi, Director of Community Relations of the ICAC, attended a networking reception of the Indian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong (ICCHK) on 17 July to share with ICCHK’s members on the anti-corruption and ethics promotion work of the ICAC. He exchanged with members on the probity situation in Hong Kong, the challenges ahead in the fight of corruption, as well as the initiatives and services of the ICAC and the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre (HKBEDC).


The ICCHK is one of the ten member chambers of the Business Ethics Development Advisory Committee, which guides the work of the HKBEDC. The partnership between the HKBEDC and these foreign and local chambers fully demonstrates the support from the business communities in upholding business and professional ethics to sustain a level-playing field in Hong Kong.

Striving to promote business and professional ethics, the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre (HKBEDC) takes every opportunities to share with local and international fellows on our integrity initiatives.

 

On 24 May, Professor Cliff SUN, Chairman of the Business Ethics Development Advisory Committee, chaired a plenary session on “Building an Integrity Culture” at the 7th ICAC Symposium during which the work of the HKBEDC was shared with over 500 representatives from more than 50 jurisdictions. Speakers from the World Bank, the Ministry of Justice of Estonia and the Accountability Lab Global together with the ICAC’s Director of Community Relations also elaborated different innovative strategies for promoting a probity culture in their respective regions. Representatives of the HKBEDC also made use of different speaking platforms to expound the anti-corruption laws in Hong Kong and highlight common corruption risks. Two seminars were conducted in May 2019 including one for new members of the Hong Kong Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the other one entitled "Upholding Ethical Governance in Listed Companies" jointly organised with the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association and the Chinese Securities Association of Hong Kong for senior management and professionals. 2019 marks the 45th anniversary of the ICAC. On 2 March, over 200 members from different business organisations showed their support and attended the ICAC Open Day to gain first-hand knowledge on Hong Kong’s anti-corruption work. Participants were briefed on the work of the ICAC and toured around various ICAC facilities, including the Exhibition Hall, the mock Video Interview Rooms, Identification Parade Suite and the Detention Centre. They also had a close encounter with the unloaded firearms on display.

 

The annual “All for Integrity” Project co-organised by the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre (HKBEDC) and the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (HKCEA) Youth Committee was also held on the same day. About 100 members and their families joined the ICAC Open Day in the morning and were welcomed by Mr Zhu Hua, Vice President of HKCEA and Ms Lily Chung, Executive Director of the HKBEDC. Participants had a fruitful day and parents joining with kids appreciated the opportunity to pass on the probity values to their next generation.

Invited by the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (HKCEA), ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh exchanged views with over 300 senior representatives of mainland-funded enterprises in Hong Kong on the work of the ICAC at “The 4th HKCEA Hong Kong Series” on 13 December 2018.

 

The theme of Commissioner’s speech was “Change”. He shared with the participants how the ICAC upholds the probity culture of Hong Kong and sustains a level-playing environment with its unchanged mission and adaptability to constant changes and challenges. He also explained how the ICAC strives to contribute to a corruption-free region and passes on the value of integrity to the future generations through enforcement, experience sharing and the “ethics for all” approach.

 

The Commissioner thanked HKCEA for collaborating with the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre over the years in the promotion of business ethics to Chinese enterprises in Hong Kong. With the ICAC’s 45th Anniversary approaching, he called for the participants’ continuous support and joining hands with the ICAC in upholding Hong Kong’s core value of integrity.
